Design, Refurbishment, and Installation Works at BAE Systems Barrow-in-Furness Site

Client: BAE Systems

Start Date: 2020

End Date: Various / Ongoing

Value: £ Various

Since 2020, JCL have delivered multiple schemes for BAE Systems at their high-security Barrow-in-Furness site. Projects have included the manufacture, supply, and installation of bespoke fire doors and access systems and the design and refurbishment of laboratories and stores. Following the success of our refurbishment works project in 2022, JCL have been appointed to deliver Phase 2 of the scheme.

As the site is crucial to National Security, our teams have undergone national security screening and we have supported our supply chain with this requirement. We have ensured all operatives have obtained the required security clearance before beginning work on site.

The use of photography and mobile phones is strictly prohibited, and our teams have implemented strict site rules and ensured compliance with BAE requirements at all times.

Throughout each project, the buildings continued to operate 24/7, and it has been imperative to minimise the impact of our work. JCL have provided close liaison with Building Managers, communicating daily and providing weekly look-ahead meetings to plan upcoming works. Our site teams offered a flexible approach to planning and phasing which has been a key element to the successful delivery of our works.

We are only sharing limited project information due to the high-security nature of the site, and provide a brief overview of our scope of works below:

  • Design works to include engagement with various stakeholders to progress and approve design elements
  • Extensive stakeholder engagement during the planning and delivery stages to coordinate our site activities around ongoing operations
  • Design of building refurbishment works to meet BIM Level Two Maturity, with all drawings provided in Revit
  • Design, supply, and installation of fire doors and 120minute fire rated roller shutter
  • Full strip out of various areas to include offices, stores and laboratories
  • Refurbishment and replacement of systems, fixtures, and fittings
  • Redecoration of walls and ceilings including drylining/plastering
  • Investigation and remedial work to damp / water ingress
  • Firestopping of all doors and electrical supply cables
  • Installation and commissioning of systems

Client Commendation:

“Firstly, I would just like to say it has been a pleasure dealing with Jamieson on this project and given the area the project was located in, the Site Manager has managed the job exceptionally well with a professional approach.

“Overall, I cannot fault the performance of Jamieson and this has been recognised by others onsite including the SHE team who have also praised the company for the high standards applied.

“As mentioned it has been a pleasure dealing with your company and in particular, Dan, Jon and Alexandra.

“I hope to see your company back on site in the future carrying out more good work.”
