Public Health England Oxford
Public Health England Oxford
Client: Public Health England
Project Completion: April 2019
Project Value: £150k
Jamieson’s were awarded the contract to carry out essential office upgrades for Public Health England’s Centre for Radiation, Chemical and Environmental Hazard, Chilton, Oxfordshire. The works involved the refurbishment of offices and laboratories within the occupied building.
The works were to be completed in a live environment, requiring us to manage the building users safety at all times. We also had to plan the works to cause the least disturbance possible to those working during the day. To support the centre, we carried out some noisy works after hours, but this had to be planned in conjunction with the centre security due to the high security nature of the site. This all require careful planning and organisation to make sure the centres crucial works could continue at all times and was greatly appreciated by the facilities team.
Ensuring this project was delivered on time was of the highest importance for the client as the facility was in constant use and staff had to be moved around the building to accommodate our works. We ensured comprehensive planning of our works to allow the client to notify departments of the agreed moves during the preconstruction period, allowing them adequate time to pack equipment and coordinate moves with their IT departments.
Our team was fully aware of the paramount importance of delivering on time and this was achieved through careful planning, out of hours working and dedication from our site team.
Following commencement on site, asbestos was detected which had not been identified in the clients R&D report. Our site manager worked with the Public Health England team to reprogramme the works to allow us to carry out other works during the 14-day notification period to the HSE. This prevented a stand still on site and reduced potential additional costs.
