Merseytravel Tolls Extension
Client: Merseytravel
Project Value: £351k
Completion Date: June 2022
This project for Merseytravel delivered a new extension to the police and tolls building at the Wallasey/Kingsway Tunnel.
Procured through an open tender route, the scheme had complex access requirements, located adjacent to an occupied building and within close proximity to the operational tolls and a live highway.
Key to the delivery of this project was minimising disruption for the adjacent tolls building. Prior to commencement on site, we held a pre-start meeting with Merseytravel representatives to fully understand the current building operations and planned our works in line with stakeholder requirements.
Throughout the delivery stages we engaged daily with the building manager and ensured Merseytravel had unhindered access to the segregated rooms adjacent to our works. We ensured safe access for both staff and visitors, and planned deliveries out of peak hours.
During the preconstruction stages of the project, we ensured we procured long lead-in items such as steel as early as possible to mitigate against a potential delay. Working with our M&E Contractor, we provided a value engineering saving to Merseytravel by offering an alternative and more effective M&E solution.
Our scope of works included:
- Demolition of an existing ticket office
- New steel frame
- New roof and cladding tied into the existing building
- Brickwork
- M&E including new data installation
- New external DDA compliant ramps
- Internal fitout including new ceilings, flooring, joinery and kitchenette
- Full decoration throughout
- Refurbishment of existing areas
